Orthodontics is the specialized branch of dentistry that involves moving and straightening the teeth and the jaws. Orthodontists under go advanced postgraduate education to learn the skills to correct the following problems:
Orthodontics improves the appearance of the teeth - no one can deny the importance of an attractive and winning smile!
Orthodontics creates an improvement of the occlusion of the teeth. Occlusion is the term we use to describe how the teeth meet when they bite.
A good occlusion is important in preventing tooth and gum disease, and jaw joint problems.
It is also important for good function of the teeth.
We can provide care for the following problems:
In all these instances Orthodontic Care will improve the appearance, health, and function of your teeth, and give you a beautiful smile in the process.
Both children and adults benefit from Orthodontic Care and braces. The main thing that determines if you are a good candidate for care is not your age, but the health of your teeth and gums. With good oral health your Orthodontic Care will be successful whether you are a child or adult.
By age 7 most children have a mixture of baby and adult teeth, and problems in children are easier to correct if they are found early.
We recommend that children have their first Orthodontic Examination with us at the age of 7.
If a problem is detected at an Orthodontic Examination we may not recommend immediate care. Instead we may recommend a Review Visit, which allows us to monitor the problem as well as the growth of the teeth and jaws.
Alternatively, we may recommend early Orthodontic Care in order to intercept a potential problem; this is called Interceptive Orthodontic Care. Correcting potential problems at an early age may prevent problems becoming more serious later on. This makes any care needed at a later age much less complicated.
However, for many children and teenagers the right time to start Full Orthodontic Care is when all the adult teeth are in the mouth. This is usually at 11 to 12 years old. In most cases we recommed that Full Orthodontic Care starts after the SEA examinations.
With adults the health of your teeth, gums and supporting bone is the most important thing in deciding if you are a good candidate for Orthodontic Care; not your age.
On the other hand some types of Orthodontic Care require active growth, which is lacking in an adult. As an adult the position of your teeth and jaws, or perhaps the severity of your problem, may limit how much braces can do for you.
At your examination we can determine how much you will benefit from Orthodontic Care and recommend the best way to improve your smile and correct your problems.
We use the most high-tech and innovative materials and braces, which ensures that Adult Orthodontic Care with us will be comfortable and successful.
Orthodontic Examination
Your first visit with us will be for an Orthodontic Examination.
At your Orthodontic Examination we take the time to meet you and to find out the concerns you have about your teeth and appearance. We perform a detailed examination of your face, jaws, teeth and gums, which allows us to determine the type of Orthodontic Care you need.
Then we discuss our findings with you and answer any questions you may have. And we will also let you know what needs to happen from there.
At your Examination we will give you the Estimated Cost of your Orthodontic Care and information about the Payment Plans we provide.
Finally, we will recommend one of the following courses of action:
Orthodontic Records Visit
At this visit we take specialist radiographs (x-rays) and photographs of your teeth and jaws. We also take impressions (molds) of your teeth, so that we can create models of them. This is an essential part of providing you with quality Orthodontic Care.
Our analysis of your Records allows us to come up with an accurate plan for your care. We are able to determine the types of braces that are best for you and the exact cost of your care which we present to you at your Consult visit.
